この映像は和歌山県の新宮市にある日本最大の浮島。浮島とは池沼で水草の遺骸が積み重なって泥炭地化してできた場所で、多様な樹木の他に寒冷地と温暖地で生息する植物が見られる珍しい植物群落が楽しめます。
‘Ukijima’ means floating island, and the one in Shingu City is the largest one in Japan. In a bog, grasses built up layer by layer, and formed a floating mass of soil. Here a unique ecosystem thrives, where local plants coexist with plants from colder climates not usually found in this area.
